MORRISON – No mail service was delayed Monday after a U.S. Postal Service carrier crashed into a bridge while on the job in rural Morrison, the Morrison office confirmed.

Ariel Hamstra, 21, of Prophetstown, lost control of her truck while delivering mail on Spring Valley Road, just west of Route 78, and crashed into a concrete bridge, said Tim Cain, chief deputy for the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department.

Hamstra was taken to Morrison Community Hospital for treatment of injuries; no tickets were issued as a result of the crash.

The Morrison post office declined to discuss Hamstra’s condition, and the hospital does not release patients’ conditions as a rule.

Asked what caused the crash, Deputy Cain said he wasn’t sure.

They announced she had stolen $30 million from city coffers (later adjusted to nearly $54 million). I figured I'd interview city employees about their thoughts on the scandal. Other reporters were around, too.
