The 250 Post Blog Evaluation

Tree with bluebells (by everyday life)
(just a tree on my street that I like: bluebells too!)

Happy 250 Posts! I've decided to celebrate two types of Bloggiversaries on this blog. First, I will celebrate my annual blog-birthday, coming up in May. The other will be an honorable mention every 250 posts, of which is a pretty significant amount of posting, it seems to me.

I've now both published and didn't delete 250 posts to this blog*. Usually I think "how do you like my blog" posts are on the corny side, and that's how I felt last summer when I tried it early on to nearly no response. But I might have had the timing wrong: I was nowhere near 250 posts at that time. So here goes.

250 Blog Post Evaluation: If you have read this blog more than once, especially if you have never commented**, then consider leaving a comment. If you don't want to reveal your identity and prefer to continue lurking, then please don't out yourself on my account. But you can still leave an anonymous comment without signing up for Blogger. Maybe include a general location*** so that I can compare to what I've been seeing in my Sitemeter statistics.

I'm curious as to what compels people to read the utterly random shit I continue to post here. Perhaps some questions to assist:

- How did you find my blog?
- Why did you return?
- What type of posts do you like the best? The range is: journaling, sociological commentary, baby blogging, photo blogging, random, links, or any series past or present.
- What could I do to improve this blog, either in posting or in the template or sidebar?

I mean, this blog serves the primary purpose of giving me something to do, either when bored, procrastinating****, and by now out of some sort of blog obligation (blogbligation?) I have with myself. But if I knew that something was more interesting than something else, well hey, I might refocus my blog energy on that.*****

* So that doesn't include unpublished drafts of posts. Sorry to say you missed out on the great unpublished Sociology of MacGuyver. Maybe I'll still do it in the future.
** This is like in class when I say I want to hear from some people who haven't spoken before, a statement bound to produce an even greater silence than I would usually get. Hopefully that won't happen.
*** And not to get all George Orwell on you, but whoever always googles my name from different cities in Massachusetts, I'd love to hear from you :) Given what I've written here, here, here, here, and here, you shouldn't be surprised that I keep track of such things!
****Which is now.
*****I think five footnotes is about three to many, no?

To start, I am totally jealous that you came up with blogbligation! I should've thought of that when Brad and I were tiring of our Blogalogue/Diablogue on One Punk Under God.

Your blog is a lot of fun. It has the same style, I think, as mine--random thoughts and occurrences, occasionally with a sociological reflection, and a fair amount of concern about bathrooms!

I don't recall how I tripped on your blog, probably Jeremy's blog roll or someone else's.

I wouldn't worry about improving. It's entertaining and my sense is that worrying about quality too much increases the blogbligation too much.

Blog on, dude!

Um. OK. I read your post and felt compelled to out myself. Reading it made me feel like a kid that got caught with their hand in the candy jar!

I am completely NOT a stalker. But reading your footnotes, I realize I must SEEM like a stalker. Especially since I HAVE Googled you, which is how I got here.

I LOVE your blog. I have a blog myself over at LiveJournal. Stop by . . . I have a feeling you know who I am but perhaps visiting my blog will help http://as2.livejournal.com/

I don't blog about anything all that interesting - - life in general. And the really juicy stuff (ha) is locked . . .

Well. Enough out of me.

I stumbled onto your blog via Nick and Ellen's blog. It's a diversion in my breaks during the day. I mainly like your random thoughts and observations.
However, when you talk about music, I'm lost because I'm a classical musician and a bit older (but not THAT old).

Dan: Thanks! I have to say, you started your blog at a time when I was at a lack for post ideas, and I totally wanted to morph into your blog since I liked your ideas so much. Ordinary things like "should the belt go over or under the jeans label" is really what it's all about. That and the beef bar. A Blue Monster classic.

Also, unrelated but: are you really doing 100 pushups a day? Please tell me that is at least in several sets (and I don't mean sets of 50) throughout the day. I am a total weakling.

anon 9:50: I can't tell you how excited I am to have two anonymous comments! I've always wanted to address an anonymous comment by the time they wrote in but never had the opportunity. And no, I didn't know who you were, but did not think you were a stalker. Google is an easy way to look up this blog.

For all interested: Anon 9:50 is my high school senior prom date (circa 1992). How's that for some juicy stuff?

Anon 11:51: So far, just today, 70% of the searches to this blog are hair style related searches. That includes 3% for "men fashion" and 3% for "fashion mullet." 50% are for "hair style" and "hair styles" alone.

Susan: Thanks! You might want to check out my classical music post from last summer at The Late Greats. The link will be broken, but you can read what I wrote.

Hey! How did you figure out who I was? So much for being mysterious.

I love reading your blog and am happy you're doing well. Congrat to you and Sarah on your pregnancy!

I glanced over your livejournal page but still couldn't get it. Then Sarah was reading it more carefully and announcing the clues to me. The clincher is that I know your husband's name :-) To spare everyone else the reunion, I'll contact you somehow off-blog!

Ok grammar freaks: Is that a proper use of the word "clincher?" Is that even a word?

how do I get one of them crate and barrel tables, huh?

Gah! So obvious.

You can e-mail me through LJ at as2@livejournal.com (it routes to my real e-mail).

I would love to hear from you and catch up via e-mail.

At 11:17 AM, Susan said...

Yes Marc, you used "clincher" correctly. (Def: A decisive fact, argument, act, or remark.)
I am a grammar and usage freak. It's part of my work. Ellen will attest to this.

Duke: just yesterday another satisfied customer entered my blog looking for "ravinia table" and outclicked on Crate and Barrel. It's the one service I feel I can provide. Hopefully Rittle junior will experience Ravinia (and accompanying table) this summer!

Susan: Thanks, that's one of those terms that just comes out of my mouth (or fingers), and then I look back and think - What does that mean, anyway? Well, at least I will no longer end sentences with of for a preposition.

I wish I could do 100 in a row--maybe someday. I'm trying to work my way up. Right now, it's sets of 40. I'm actually averaging about 140 a day...A couple of years ago, I decided to try to do push-ups mainly because of a back problem. At that time, I couldn't even do one....

Your blog makes me smile. Hope things are well!
