Candidates work hard to get endorsements from supporters across the political spectrum, and Ward 44 hopeful Diana Hall managed to cover a wide base. Her latest election leaflet carries endorsements from both Sandra Bussin (Ward 32, Beaches-East York), who is a loyal supporter of Mayor David Miller, and Karen Stintz (Ward 16, Eglinton-Lawrence), who is a member of the unofficial opposition to Miller. Covering her party bases, she also is pictured both with Ontario Conservative leader John Tory, and with Liberal MP Dan McTeague.

Crosby, Stiles Nash and Young?

A city hall reporter still stuck in the '60s noticed that Mayor David Miller listed a campaign contribution recently from a chap named Neil Young. He also had donations from Diana Crosbie, Marit Stiles and Peggy Nash to complete the CSNY grouping.

Candidate's idea has no legal clout

Toronto council candidate Anthony Caputo, (Ward 1, Etobicoke North), wants to see computer chip technology applied to firearms so only the registered owner could "activate" the weapon, thereby rendering stolen guns useless. Of course, city council has no power to make it happen, and could only implore the federal government to take action.

Council's done A1 job, says Mihevic

Whatever Councillor Joe Mihevc's flaws, false modesty is not among them. The Ward 21, St. Paul's councillor, facing a strong challenge from veteran politicians John Sewell and John Adams, answered a survey from Internet site Wikinews that asked, in part, what city council decisions of the past term were the least desirable. His answer? "Ward 21 was well served by City Council, " he replied. "No adverse decisions were made."
