Launching, Branding and Publicizing Your PodcastAmy Webb will lead an interactive session to help businesses, professional reporters and citizen journalists plan and produce targeted Podcasts. What are the three key elements every Podcast should have? How do you target your audience correctly? How do you let others know about your Podcast? Amy will answer these and other questions. This workshop will include handouts and hands-on opportunities. Participants should bring their digital recorders and laptops. Amy has worked with large and small media as well as with corporations all over the world to innovate digital tools and content.

  • 21. Case Study: TWiT-TV's new net@nite live interactive podcast: Mark Juliano will discuss how and why Leo Laporte and Amber MacArthur are using this new podcasting format.
  • 27. Suzanne Falter Barnes and John C. Havens- **CASE STUDY:** How to monetize your pod/videocast. Learn how Suzanne's character, Serenity Hawkfire emerged from a live show into the pod/videocasting realm and what she and John (in his role as a podcast consultant) are doing to monetize her efforts.
  • 37. C. Nana-Oye Addo-Yobo will moderate a panel documenting people/organizations that have made great progress with the use of social media to promote their music, art, and awareness campaigns. We will discuss best practices for utilizing podcasting technology beyond solely broadcasting lectues, topics include, but are not limited to using podcasts as part of in-class instruction, using podcasts as homework and out-of-classroom instruction, the challenges teachers face in using podcasts as an instructional tool, and more. Simon Applebaum is a contributing editor for Cable World, the trade magazine covering the cable TV industry and will be leading a panel discussion on the convergence of new media and cable technologies. A journalist following cable news and issues for more than 25 years, Applebaum previously wrote for Multichannel News, Cablevision and other trade publications. He also has moderated panels for various organizations, including NAMIC (cable industry's diversity advocate), Women In Cable and the Future of TV Forum at New York University.

  • 76. Whitney Hoffman Gearcast for Newbies. Session on what you need to get started podcasting on a limited budget. Will talk about what you need, and also what you may want in the future, from someone who has been there and done that.
  • 80. Podcasting/New Media 101 - Greg Demetrick. As there are a number of participants new to podcasting/new media, this session will help you get your feet wet with basic concepts, planning, tools, and work needed to pull it all together. About half of the the focus in the session will be on tools needed to create podcasts and how to use them.
  • 81. Podcasting/New Media 102 (Session presenter TBA; should be taken after Podcasting/New Media 101). Focus here is on the how-to of creating the following: a blog, a podcast, a videocast. As this is a lot of material to cover in 50 minutes, presenter will provide numerous online resources for participants to use as follow up to session.

But its very openness has made it a target of spammers, phishers and other hackers.   • 2. Social Media Convergence and Virtual Worlds. Different forms of social media (blogs, podcasts,videocasts,wikis etc.) are beginning to converge. While this convergence has already begun, the emergence of virtual worlds in the mainstream will expedite this process. Worlds such as Second Life, Kaneva, There and Cyworld (and dare we say Google) are all, at their core, social networks. How will this play out in 2007?   • 62. Politics of Networks and Open Access - Net Neutrality and More. Why it matters and how to have an effect. Dave Burstein and any others experienced and interested; tough questions from the audience welcome.
  • 75. Heath Row, a researcher at DoubleClick is interested in the question, "What If Ads Were Content?" The phrase Web 2.0 might be played, especially since we're moving toward the semantic Web, arguably Web 3.0, already. Online marketing and advertising could/should catch up with the rest of the Web.   • 97. John Federico of the On Digital Media podcast will be speaking on AxL: The Attention Exchange Language. (Pronounced “Ax-el”) Unlike the web where there is a centralized real-time information exchange around the consumption of digital media, downloadable media presents entirely new measurement challenges. There isn’t a real-time exchange regarding consumption and usually, there isn’t an exchange at all. Hence, the concept for downloadable media called “AxL: The Attention eXchange Language“.

  • 82. Solo Podcasting - Greg Demetrick- Host of 5 Questions and 365 Tao. If you decide to go it alone as a podcaster you will be faced with some unique problems. In exchange for complete control over the technology, content, and promotion you will sacrifice some sanity and sleep.
