JACKSONVILLE
Scheduled protest to reroute trafficJacksonville police will redirect city traffic for safety reasons from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday on N.C. 24 westbound from Richards Road to Hargett Street due to the planned demonstration by Westboro Baptist Church.The church obtained a permit to demonstrate at Hargett Street and Johnson Boulevard, and traffic will be routed away from the area during the demonstration.
All traffic traveling on New Bridge Street or Johnson Boulevard or east on N.C. 24 can continue without delays. Motorists who wish to travel to the New River Shopping Center or surrounding neighborhoods can reach their destinations by traveling N.C. 24 east to New River Drive.
All traffic from Camp Johnson or Montford Landing Road will be directed to the right lanes down N.C. 24. The intersection at N.C. 24 and Hargett Street will be closed to all traffic during the demonstration except to emer-gency vehicles and crews.

Maintenance work set for city bridgeThe bridge on Old Bridge Street that crosses the New River will be undergoing maintenance starting at 7 p.m. Monday and is expected to end Feb. 15 at 5 a.m.During the maintenance crew’s working hours, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., the traffic flow will go down to one lane each way.
Amanda Glynn, division three bridge maintenance engineer, said the crew will be replacing the expansion joints due to wear. Glynn said the bridge was built in 1988 and is not in any disrepair. The work is just routine maintenance.

Maritime Museum seeks volunteers
Volunteer opportunities are available at the N.C. Maritime Museum in Beaufort, and you are invited to learn more.A volunteer orientation will be held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. The N.C. Maritime Museum, a part of the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources, is located at 315 Front St.
